Anna Losefsky is a Swedish artist and a/r/tographer whose artistic practice is rooted in weaving as a living cultural tradition. It is developed through Weaving as Expanded Choreography—an evolving methodology that explores how movement, material, and tactile making shape attention, human relationships, self expression, and ways of being together. Through woven artworks, embodied somatic inquiry, and relational social practice, her work investigates the loom as a site for intertwined self and collective inquiry, and contemporary performance.

At the core of her work is the understanding of the loom as a choreographic structure. She approaches weaving through the parameters of listening, orientation, rhythm, tension, and response. Long before modern therapeutic frameworks, collective making and ritual served to regulate emotion and sustain community life.

By centering traditions historically carried by women, she honors this lineage while translating it into contemporary art, performative pedagogy, and embodied artistic inquiry. Alongside her studio-based textile works, she develops participatory encounters and workshops as an artistic method, where weaving becomes performativity, an embodied tool for collective care and imagination.

Through her social practice, she seeks to "learn from the expressions of the child" - exploring play, raw emotion and authentic self-expression. She uses making, ritual, play, and multimodality in non-hierarchical spaces to dismantle adult structures, as well as her own, exploring what the loom teaches us about the human experience. Ultimately, her work examines how the principles of weaving and its holding frame of care, transforms both the child and the adult’s inner child, fostering trust, play, and embodied expression. Moving between individual somatic awareness and collective collaboration, she turns the textile process into a living technology of movement and connection.

Background

Anna Losefsky holds a foundational background in arts and crafts from Nyckelviksskolan (2005–2007) and Handarbetets Vänner (2022–2024), alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Education with an Intercultural Profile from Södertörn University (2007–2011), focusing on open pedagogical frameworks and aesthetic learning processes. She earned her Master’s degree in Child and Youth Studies from Stockholm University (2017–2019), specializing in ethnographic, intercultural motherhood studies in relation to child culture. Her postgraduate studies focus on social structures at Stockholm University, Performativity at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (2026), and A/r/tography as well as Weaving as Expanded Choreography and Dance at Stockholm University of the Arts.

    Implemented community workshops within Stockholm’s public park playgrounds (parklekar) in collaboration with the Stockholm Social Administration’s Mental Health Initiative.
