Nordingrå

Woven Spells.

Up north in Nordingrå, on the High Coast, a place of melancholy and mystery.

Here at the Nordingrå Art Residency, I weave talismans to remember the women who once carried society’s guilt and darkness during the witch trials of the 1600s.

Back then, Nordingrå’s families ,especially women ,were deeply exposed to witchcraft accusations, cut off from the world, facing failed harvests while many men were gone to war or work.

My talismans are woven jewels, made by hand, with presence, and with the intention of protection. They are a way for a modern witch to transform the darkness projected onto her by others into light and power.

Beside these woven amulets stands the woven childhood scene — about children’s right to free and safe play — quietly contrasting the mountains and the melancholy of history.

Here, thread and gesture reclaim joy, softness, and imagination from the same landscape that once silenced and condemned.

Here, the fear that haunted women becomes woven into protection , and the vulnerability of the child becomes a source of strength.
